Lent Challenge Day 37

Day 37:Happy Palm Sunday!

Mathew 21:1-11

1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,

2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

I know I've been skipping all over the place lately... It's the end of the semester, please forgive me. However, today marks the 40th day of this journey and as my sisters (who have also been doing this challenge) are wrapping things up and bearing their final testimonies I wanted to go ahead and contribute mine.

My goal in posting was to share with you all what the gospel of Christ means to me and what it does for me. I wanted to share what being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints aka Mormon really means. I hope that my posts however long or short showed you that it is more than odd rules and strange Sunday practices. I hope they illustrated a love for the scriptures, particularly a love for the Book Of Mormon. I hope they showed that the Book of Mormon is not a made up book of lies, but rather a true testament of Christ that is a beautiful companion to the Bible. I hope that they have helped you understand the things that the church teaches and the things that modern day prophets and apostles teach. I hope you found kindness, a love for Christ, selflessness, wisdom, and love. I hope you felt truth in their words and hope in their promises. I hope you can see how happy the gospel makes me! I hope you were able to understand who I am, where I come from, and where I am going, but most importantly I hope you were able to understand who you are, where you come from, and where you are going. I hope you understood that we have a Father in Heaven who loves us.

I love this gospel. I know I could not be any happier than I am without it in my life. I know we are led by a true prophet today and I know that this church was founded by a true prophet named Joseph Smith. I know that as I live the things that are taught to me by those prophets and by the apostles my life is happier, full of freedom, and peaceful. I know the Book of Mormon to be true. I know that as I have studied it I have been uplifted and have been guided by its teachings of Christ and his true gospel. I know that God loves us. I know that He knows us. I know that He cares for us. I know that we are his children- literally- and he cares for us only as a perfect Father can. We knows who we are and knows who we can become and He will do all that he can to help us get there. I know He is on your side and ready to listen and speak with you to help you return home to Him.

I am especially grateful for Christ and his atonement. As we enter holy week I would like to spend these next days leading up to Easter reviewing the events that took place leading up to his resurrection. We don't really do much during this week in my church- Obviously we celebrate Easter- but other than that there is little acknowledgment of the final week of Christ's life. My mom grew up Presbyterian and I think she missed things like Palm Sunday and Thursday communion, so she made sure us kids acknowledged the importance of this week by reviewing with us each day the scriptures leading up to Sunday Morning. I am so grateful for her and her testimony of Christ. My final hope is that these last few days of this challenge let you know how much I appreciate Christ and what he has done for my life.

Thank you for your encouraging comments during these 40 days. Something that started out terrifying became easy. I have enjoyed learning through these posts. There were many things that I hadn't clearly realized until I had begun to write them down. If anything my testimony has been strengthened as I have taken the time to share and contemplate what the gospel has done for me each day. I am so grateful for the wonderful experience this has been. #40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

To This End Was I Born
Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and King of the Jews, was born to offer Himself as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of mankind. http://mormoncha...

Day 37: Here is a post to coincide with sibling day (sort of). I wanted to share this story in my Book of Mormon week, but I ran out of time so here it is. This is a picture of the Two Thousand Young (Strippling) Warriors.

Here's the long story short. These were the sons of a righteous group of people who made a covenant with God that they would never fight in war again. Then, they were attacked by some not so righteous people and weren't sure what to do. They did not want to break their covenant, but they also didn't feel like dying at the time.

It was their sons who stood up and volunteered to fight for the people. They could because they had not taken on the covenant.

"And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all- they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted. Yea, they were men of truth and sober ness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him." Alma 53: 20-21

(Doesn't that sound like a dreamy group of guys? ) (I'm sure there are plenty of sets of siblings there too...)

So, they went into battle. They were victors! Many were wounded, but none killed because they were protected by the power of God.

That's all very cool, but my favorite part of the story is the credit they gave to their mothers.

"Yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed [...] the words of their mothers saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." Alma 56: 47-48

Their mothers taught them. It is our responsibility to teach our children the ways of God. And, if we do, when the time comes that they will be faced in battled - however that might look- they will trust in God for protection. Some will be wounded still, but all will come out victors if that faith is in place.

That is my continual prayer. That I will know just what to teach my children so that they might have the companionship of their God.

I'm so grateful for the good examples of this group of mothers. And my own.

Day 37: Keep sacred things sacred.

If you hold the truths that God reveals to you sacred, God will reveal more truth. If you hold the truth that God reveals to you of little worth, God will not give you anymore truth, and He may remove the truth He already gave you.

You keep truth sacred by:
-Trusting in the truth God has revealed, even if the truth is not immediately evident in your life. God cannot lie.

-Valuing the truth God has revealed. Integrate the truth into your life, ponder it, ask God your questions about it. Show Him you value the truth He has revealed to you. Don't just set it aside and ignore it.

- Responding to the truth God reveals. Truth always motivates you towards some type of change, be willing to make the changes, show God you are responsive to truth.

- Fear not, don't be frightened of truth. Truth does inspire change, truth does change the way you perceive the world. Don't be afraid of it. Instead respond in faith. Truth is given to prepare you to meet and understand God, it is a blessing, not something to fear.

When you hold truth sacred, you are honoring God. Sometimes keeping sacred things sacred includes not discussing everything God has revealed with the whole world. Share general truths, but hold the personal truths sacred. I know as you keep sacred things sacred, God will bless you with more revelation.
