Day 14: I love to see the temple. I love going in the temple.
Temples are one of the greatest things modern day revelation has restored to us. I took a class on the history of ancient Judaism one semester. Often throughout the class I was struck by how similar their practices and beliefs were to our own, particularly as we studied Solomon's temple. Joseph Smith was truly restoring truths lost in the ancient church, Christ's church. Some of my favorite stories about Christ is when he is in the temple.
It has been described as a place where heaven meets Earth. In fact, it is the closest thing to a literal "heaven on Earth." In the temple eternal covenants are made and eternal truths are taught. Many of you know that that is where I got married. When Andrew and I chose to marry in the temple we chose to marry for not only time but for all eternity. We were "sealed" to one another, just as my parents are sealed to each other. Because of this sealing I am eternally connected with my parents, with my siblings, with my husband, with our children, and if they choose to be married in the temple then I will be sealed to their children and so on and so forth. The temple is a place that brings Heavenly Father's children home. It is a place where we can be connected as one big family once again and be able to return to our Father together as we were before.
There is plenty of other work that is done in the temple that prepares us here on earth, those who have gone before, and even those who will come after to return to Heaven. Most of the time I go to the temple for peace. It is the quietest, most beautiful place on this earth. It is a place where the world and all its cares disappear for the few hours I am there. It is a place where I can think clearly. It is a place where you can really talk with God. It is His house and you can feel that He is near when you enter.
It is a place of revelation. A place of refuge. A place of service. A place of learning. It is a place of covenants- of beautiful, sweet, holy promises between me and God. It is a place of eternal love. It is a place of hope and joy. It is a place of peace.
The temple is all of these things for me and there isn't any other building that can compare to it. #40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

Day 14:God respects your agency, or ability to act.
God will never force anyone to do anything. He will not infringe on your agency, or ability to act for yourself.
One of the main things we are learning here on earth is how to make choices, how to act, and how to judge right from wrong. This system of making choices and experiencing the consequences of our choices increases our intelligence and can even give us wisdom.
Don’t run away from the consequences of your choices, they are a gift from God to increase in wisdom. God has given us several ways to learn how to judge and how to make righteous choices. This allows us to reap consequences that lead to happiness, rather than sorrow.
This theme on agency will be important for the next few posts. I know we have the power to chose for ourselves in this life. No matter what has happened to you, either through your action or another’s action, you are the master of your own fate. You control your choices.
This is Thomas S. Monson. The living prophet on the earth today, teaching this principle using scripture and teachings from past modern day prophets.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzwQyFPlbKE&feature=youtu.be
