Facebook is not the best medium for written archival purposes. But the posts were often multimedia, so collecting them in a book format did not work well either. So I am coming back to my blog.
I have missed my blog. Maybe this will help me recreate the habit of blogging. Who knows. :)
Friends this is a FYI notice:
This year instead of having a “who can go longest without any (fill in the blank)” competition for lent (Always fun but I apologize if that was irreverent and disrespectful of me. Mormons don’t really do lent. I didn't even really understand what it really was until the annual lent competition tradition was already started), I've been challenged and have accepted to make it a more spiritual and meaningful six weeks. The thing is, is that I've also been challenged to share it with you all. So every day you should expect a little note from me that will hopefully be spiritually uplifting or at least enlightening to a part of who I am and what I believe. Some of you know that I am Mormon, which means different things to all of you, but I hope by the end of this 6 weeks you have a better understanding of what it means to me. Facebook secretly terrifies me because I know you all are out there ready to share your opinions. Of course if you have something to say I’d love to hear it, really, I love talking about religion in general (should have been a RELI major) so please share, just keep in mind that this is something that I love dearly.
Love,
Kelley

Lent begins tomorrow. I am not catholic (the traditional religion to observe the 40 day sacrifice). But, I am a Christian and I like the idea of taking a block of time to improve yourself and prepare your mind for the Easter holiday.
I never even thought about Lent until Kelley Barrow Miles and Aaron Barrow started challenging each other to give up one thing or another. (It's still a debate if white chocolate counts as actual chocolate.). Now I ponder it every year. What can I do to make myself a better person? How can I challenge myself?
Many of you know that I am LDS, or Mormon. I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is a church that is spread through the world. We, as members, are strongly encouraged to "share the gospel of Jesus Christ." Be a missionary.
I like to think that I do this mostly in my every day activity. I focus my life on the teachings of Jesus Christ and therefore show others the light of Christ through my simple interactions with them.
I'm by far perfect at this and sometimes really very bad at it.
However, for Lent rather than give up chocolate or t.v., I'm challenging myself to be a FB missionary. I will post something everyday- something little so as to not be too preachy, because that's annoying- that expresses my testimony of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
This is a challenge because I often don't want to put my religion out there in fear of changing relationships for the worse. I don't want to impose. I don't want to seem self righteous or push an attitude of "I'm better then you." I don't because I'm not.
I do want to share what brings me great peace and joy. I do want to share what I know to be the plan of happiness.
So, I hope you enjoy the journey with me. Honestly, I'm shaking in my boots a little. Here goes nothing...and if you'd like to join along, I'd be happy to have the company.

OK I have been given a challenge to share 40 days of personal truths I have learned in my life...and I have to share on facebook!
This is a Lent Challenge. Our family has a fun tradition doing challenges for Lent, no facebook, no chocolate, no sugar etc.... last year I decided to read a rather lengthy book for Lent. I did an addition rather than a removal, and it was an amazing experience.
The book was James E Talmage's Jesus the Christ. I loved studying about our Savior the 40 days prior to Easter. This year however my sisters, Ann Barrow Bradley and Kelley Barrow Miles have challenged me to share with others the truths I have discovered and hold dear.
This is slightly annoying... I like my privacy...I don't mind sharing my truths with people...I just don't love the medium of facebook. But I do love all of you. I really do. I have carefully considered all of my facebook friends. I accepted you as a friend because I want to know about your life, and I don't mind sharing my life with you.
So for the next 40 days you will get a post a day about a truth I have learned in my life. Part of me just hopes you will ignore them....but if you do read them, know they are lessons I have learned. And publicly sharing them is crazy hard for me, but also super easy, (my life is full of conflicts like that) because I love you all, and I love sharing with my friends.
