Day 23: Today in one of my religion classes we talked about evolution and how fundamentalist Christians respond to it.

Day 23: "The family is ordained of God." (The Family a Proclamation to the World)
"ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny." (The Family a Proclamation to the World)
We began as a family. We were all together in what is referred to as the Spirit World. We were (are) all spirit brothers and sisters. We had (have) heavenly parents, God the Father, and yes, a mother too. Heavenly Mother.
A verse of my favorite hymns goes like this:
I had learned to call thee Father,
Thru thy Spirit from on high,
But, until the key of knowledge
Was restored, I knew not why.
In the heav'ns are parents single?
No, the thought makes reason stare!
Truth is reason; truth eternal
Tells me I've a mother there.
We don't know much about our Heavenly Mother. But, doesn't it make sense that if the family- which starts with a mother and father- is so important to God's plan, that our spirits would also have a mother? It was explained to me once that she is not spoken of as much because she is most respected, reverenced, and protected. Think of all the ways the name of God is taken in vain or slandered. That has not happened to our beloved eternal Mother.
Its probably an understatement to say there have been great discussions on the idea of family in the last several years. It is a heated and confusing discussion. I hope that over the next fews days I can express myself with love and understanding. I don't want my posts to be politically charged. I just want to explain what I know to be the truth or God's laws. What I know to be His Plan of Happiness.
I will be pulling much of what I have to say from a document called: The Family: a Proclamation to the World. It was written by a prophet of God and delivered to us almost 20 years ago. If you want to go ahead and read it to try and understand where I am coming from in the next few days, that would be wonderful.
I believe that the we started as a family- with a mother and father- and that the family unit continues to be the most essential part of God's plan to help his children return to him. It is so important that Satan wants to destroy it. He wants to prevent as many of us from returning to our Father's presence as he can. He's good at it too. Many are suffering because of his cunning and deceitful ways. I believe that I must do what I can to help protect and defend it for I "will one day stand accountable before God." Day 23: We can learn about God's plan of happiness for us through scriptures.
I believe the Bible is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. I also believe that God has spoken to His children all over the world. So I believe in scripture in addition to the Bible. Including the Book of Mormon, a record of an ancient people who lived in the Western Hemisphere. The Pearl of Great Price mostly a collection of writings from Abraham and Moses, and The Doctrine and Covenants a collection of revelations from modern prophets.
I learn about God's plan of salvation by studying the scriptures. I learn about Jesus Christ through searching and pondering scripture. Scripture is how God helps us learn truth.
