Lent Challenge Day 22

Day 22: Tonight I've been studying grace. Here are the scriptures I love the most:

"For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." 2 Nephi 25:23

"Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea.
Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things." Jacob 4:6-7

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.
And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot."
Moroni 10:32-33

What an appropriate thing to remember as we approach Easter. Thank goodness for the grace of God that will make up the difference from where we fall short. #40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

Day 22: Week 4. This week is all about FAMILIES! The most fundamental until in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the family unit. It's not our church houses, it's not anywhere on Temple Square, it's not the MTC, it's not even our beloved temples, it's in the home with the family.

The family is where we learn to love, serve, respect, and basically become productive members of society.

Families are where the basic truths of the gospel are taught and lived.

I don't have anything too deep to say about families today except that I feel SO very blessed to have been raised in a strong family, then to have found someone to begin a family with who was also raised with the same values and focus on family as I was. So. Very. Blessed.

It makes for a happy life.

Day 22: We receive blessings from God by making covenants with God.

A covenant is a promise between two or more people. A covenant with God is how God seals blessings on his children. God makes the terms of the covenant, we agree to follow the terms, He promises to bless us. And God always keeps His promises.

God has a long history of making covenants with His children, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all made covenants with God. Moses delivered Israel out of Egypt because Joseph of Egypt had received a promise from God that one day his family would be delivered out of Egypt. Joshua led the Israelite nation into the promised land because Abraham had been promised his seed would inherit the land.

Jesus Christ came to save humanity from sin and death because of a covenant God made with Adam and Eve, our first parents. They were told Satan would only have the power to bruise their seeds' heel, while their seed will bruise Satan's head. (Gen.3:15)

God implements His plan of happiness, His plan of salvation, through covenants.

I believe we can start making covenants with God at a young age. By age eight we are old enough to decide if we want to covenant to follow God's commandments, and take on the name of Christ. We give a sign or outward symbol of this covenant through baptism by immersion, God in turn gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to lead, comfort, instruct, and guide us in our life.

As we prepare and grow in understanding we will be given opportunities to make and keep more covenants with God.

I have found strength from making covenants with God, and I have received blessings through my covenants. Covenants help me understand why I am obedient to God's law, it is the work I must do to receive the promised blessings of the covenant.

My covenants have given me power, wisdom, and courage to live my life because I know I do not have to rely on my own personal strength, God has promised to help, support, and lead me along. And God has promised that He will never fail us if we keep our covenants with Him.

I love that God has promised us His promises are sure and will not fail. So much in this life fails. Covenants give me access to something that will not fail.

Covenants are an evidence of God's grace and mercy. They are the tool God uses to give His children the strength, wisdom, and power they need to return back to God's presence.

I am grateful God is willing to make covenants with His children.

This is a great talk about Covenants given by an Apostle of Jesus Christ. You can read it or listen to it. (If you read it take some time to read the footnotes. Elder Nelson writes the best footnotes, I love them.)https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2011/10/covenants
When we realize that we are children of the covenant, we know who we are and what God expects of us.
