Lent Challenge Day 24

Day 24: I am grateful for the standards the church has given me. Sometimes they can come off as "rules", but calling them rules makes it seem like I have no choice in the matter- they are just things that the church makes me do. That's not it at all though. One of the most important elements to this life and to the gospel is our right to agency, our right to choose. Most often those standards are set to help us keep that agency.

I choose not to drink because I choose to treat myself and put myself in positions where I can think clearly and make the best decisions possible.

I choose not to smoke or to avoid any addictive things because I don't think freedom entails being unable to go for a certain amount of time without having to give into a harmful craving that my body has.

Sometimes those standards are chosen so that I can just keep a happy spirit about me.

I don't swear because it comes off as crude and angry. That's not who I am and I don't need to swear to be accepted or seem more adult like... I actually don't know why people cuss. Can't you describe how you feel more accurately without throwing in all those four letter words and instead putting in more descriptive ones?

I don't wear revealing clothing because I'm more than a body, I'm a spirit too.
There are things I try to DO too.

I am honest.
I (try to) serve.
I strive to learn and to learn as much as possible.
I am grateful.

I could keep going, I mean the gospel of Christ has many high standards put in place, but the real point I want to make is that I'm grateful that I have set a pattern in my life to try to live up to them. While I don't know how my life would have turned out if I weren't Mormon I really love how it is turning out. I see so many awful stinky situations that I could have been in because I didn't have the standards that I have. I'm also grateful that my husband also kept and keeps the same standards. I believe our family will continue to be blessed and that many unfortunate situations will continue to be avoided as we make it a point in our lives to live the standards of the Gospel.#40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

Day 24: Prophets teach us about God's plan for his children, and they teach us truth. They speak for God here on earth.

I believe that God does not change. He has always revealed his truth about His will for His children through a spokesman, a prophet. Prophets are the people who wrote the books we now call scripture.

Ancient prophets taught about how Christ would come to the earth, they testified of Him. They gave specific instruction and counsel for the people they were sent to go and teach. They taught people the way to return back to our Heavenly Father.

I believe that God uses this same pattern today. There are still prophets on the earth. I believe there is a living spokesman for God today, Thomas S. Monson. And I believe there are twelve living apostles, just like when Christ was on the earth. These men teach and testify of Jesus Christ. They help us navigate this world today.

For the next two weekends you can hear them address the world. Starting Saturday, March 29, they will address women's issues and concerns in a semi-annual woman's meeting.

And next weekend they will address general topics and men's issues in the semi-annual general conference and priesthood conference.

I am grateful that God still speaks today. The teachings from prophets helps me know how to navigate this world today. They give a message of hope and peace. Their teachings help me understand how to find happiness through God's plan for His children.

Come and listen to them. Their message is for the entire world.
