Day 15: "...In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." 2 Cor. 13:1

You can find this phrase repeated in many ways throughout the Bible. It is seemingly important to the Lord that His word is verified through more than one witness. In this third week of my challenge I will share my deep testimony of The Book of Mormon. For it is another witness of Jesus Christ.

This week will barely skim the surface of all that can be gleaned from this book. I hope it might interest you.

The Book of Mormon is a history of a people who left Jerusalem in 600 B.C. It is a record of their rejoicings and faults. It is a record of a people who strived to live the commandments of God and who looked to the coming of Christ. The pivotal moment in the book is when Christ came to visit the people after his death and resurrection. He stayed with the righteous and taught them for a short period of time. It is about a people who then begin to lose faith. In the end there were no more righteous people except that of a man named Moroni.

I will begin with what is often referred to as "Moroni's promise", which is found in the last chapter of the Book of Mormon.

"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." Moroni 10:4-5

I ask that if you ever have the opportunity to read the Book of Mormon to ask God if it is true. Don't rely on me. Don't rely on your friends. Don't rely on your sunday school teachers, or preachers, or even those missionaries in their black suits and name tags that drop it off at your door. Don't rely on them. Ask God, the Eternal Father. Ask sincerely, with intent, and with faith. An answer will come. I promise you that.

I have always believed that The Book of Mormon was true. However, I have also prayed about it and gotten that pure, sweet, feeling in my heart. A feeling that I can not deny. It is a witness to the life and teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ, the same man who was born in a stable. It has been a comfort to me. It's words provide guidance in a world that often feels is falling apart. I love the simpleness of the testimonies shared in it. It is a guiding light to me. That is my testimony.  Ann #40daysoftruth#LentChanllenge2014

Day 15: God operates through law, and is even bound by law.

God is perfectly obedient to law. If He were not perfectly obedient, He would not be God. Perfect obedience is an attribute of God.

We only know about God what He has chosen to reveal to us. There is a lot I don't know, and I am not going to get into a philosophical discussion about God's omnipotence or whether God or law came first. We are eternal beings, I know that. And there is a lot about eternal beings, and eternity in general, I just cannot comprehend right now living in a finite world with time.

But God has revealed somethings about His relationship with law.

In the Doctrine and Covenants ( a collection of latter-day revelations from God to His prophets) in Section 130: 20-21 the Lord tells us:

"There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—
And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated."

Also in the Doctrine and Covenants Section 82:10 the Lord reveals:

"I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise."

God is sharing with His children the law for receiving eternal blessings, and the law for making eternal covenants with an eternal being, God.

If God, who is perfectly obedient, is going to bless you, you must first be obedient to the laws the blessings are predicated (or based on). Simply speaking this is the law of the harvest. If you want corn, you better plant corn seeds and not watermelon seeds.

So if you are to receive any eternal blessing from God, you need to first be obedient to the eternal laws that lead to that blessing. But God gives us an amazing promise if we are obedient.

Our obedience to law binds God to fulfill His promise. Any promise He gives us He must fulfill, if we are obedient to the law around the promise.

I love this doctrine. It helps me to have faith in God, in His promises, and in His law.

James E. Talmage an apostle of the Lord said the following:
“‘Mormonism’ has taught me that God holds himself accountable to law even as he expects us to do. He has set us the example in obedience to law. I know that to say this would have been heresy a few decades ago. But we have the divine word for it: ‘I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.’ (Doc. and Cov. 82:10.) He operates by law and not by arbitrariness or caprice.” (In Conference Report, Apr. 1930, p. 96.)

The knowledge that God is perfectly obedient to law gives me faith that when I approach God it will be a rational experience, God will not behave in arbitrary ways. He will be consistent. His methods will not change, and His promises are sure.

I know this was a doctrine heavy post, but understanding this doctrine about God is the foundation for most of the truths I am going to share from this point forward.

I know God is obedient to law. I know God cannot bless us eternally unless we are obedient to law. I know because of God's obedience to law, He is consistent in his dealings with His children. I know because of His obedience to law, His promises are sure, and will not fail. I know perfect obedience is an attribute of God.
