Lent Challenge Day 27

Day 27: Today was so beautiful and this weekend was so full of good teachings and spiritual moments that today I felt like Alma when talking to Korihor:

"But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these they brethren, and also all the holy prophets? The Scriptures are laid before thee, yea and ALL things denote there is a God; yea even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." Alma 30:44

Happy Spring! So excited to hear our prophet's and Apostle's messages for us this weekend! #40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

Day 27: I feel impressed to talk about Eve today. She is, after all, the mother of our earthly family.

She is not looked highly upon by many. She is blamed for being easily tempted, and therefore denied all of us from living in a paradisaical state. The fall of Eve and then Adam is blamed for our pain and suffering. It would have been nice to live in paradise. But, and this is a big but, we would have never made it.

Before eating the fruit, Adam and Eve were not mortal. They had no blood flowing through their bodies. And, they could not have children. In the act of eating of the fruit, she allowed all of us to come to this earth. I think Eve was wise enough to know that she and Adam had been commanded to have children, but in her current state could not. She also knew that with the fruit came more knowledge. She knew that if they had stayed in a state of endless peace and paradise, they would not learn as much.

Think about it, how do we learn the best? Through work, trials, and tribulations. One can stay pretty naive if nothing bad ever happens to them. I would not know how to grow a wonderful garden if it was just there. She knew. She was wise. I think she was sad when she knew she would be cast out from the garden because of this choice. Our first mother was very wise and gave up something good for something much, much better.

This is what she had to say about it to Adam, "Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient." Moses 4:22

And, because God has a perfect plan, he provided a Savior to also take away their sins. And ours. So, through the faith of Eve and also Adam (he had to trust his wife), we are on this earth, and through the faith our Jesus Christ, we can return in perfection to our Heavenly Father.

I know it to be true.  Ann #40daysoftruth #LentChallenge2014

Day 27: Temples are where we learn about God's plan for His children, and where we are able to make essential covenants with God for our eternal progression.

My posts for this ten day period have been leading up to the LDS Temples. We have church buildings where we meet every Sunday. We have our weekly activities, and social gatherings in these church buildings. Temples are different.

Temples are buildings dedicated to the Lord. Every temple has written on it "Holiness to the Lord". The temples are considered the Lord's House. It is a building built for and dedicated to God.

While an LDS chapel is sometimes overly practical (the basketball court is also the overflow for the chapel in most LDS church buildings.) The temples are set apart for one sole purpose. Making covenants with God.

Temples are full of symbolism. From the building itself, to the art work and furniture found in it, and even the lessons taught in the temple are all very symbolic. One of the most overt symbolisms of the temple is it is separate from the world.

Only members of the Church who desire to enter the temple, and willingly choose to follow commandments such as the word of wisdom (the mormon health code, no alcohol, coffee, tea, etc.), the law of tithing, and have a testimony of the teachings of the church can receive a recommend to enter the temple.

This is symbolic of how we must make an effort in our daily lives to prepare to one day enter God's presence. You have to live a law separate from the world's law. This symbolism is continued in the temple where you change into clothing that is only worn in the temple. The temple is a symbol of leaving the sins and sorrows of the the world behind, and partaking in the light and joy God has to offer His children.

Because there is so much symbolism in the temple, and because the building and the covenants we make in the temple are very sacred and holy, we do not discuss in detail what we do in the temple. It is not because of secrecy. (The temple is the reason we send missionaries out knocking on everyone's door. We want everyone to prepare to go to the temple!) The temple is not discussed because it is so sacred and holy. We do not want it to become a worldly place, so we don't discuss it with the world.

We would love for every person in the world to prepare to enter the temple though. Because the teachings and the buildings are wonderful.

These next three days I am going to share with you what I can about the temple. I hope you will see why we call these buildings Holiness to the Lord.
